Did Alexandria Ocasio Cortez Ask For A Raise

Nothing gets people more angry than Congressional pay raises, and lately, many have been posing the question, did Alexandria Ocasio Cortez ask for a raise? Well, not exactly, since technically members of Congress can't ask anyone for a pay raise, but they can vote themselves one, and this is where the controversy comes in. While AOC didn't ask for a pay raise, she is upset at other Democrat members of Congress for voting against such a raise, or more specifically, a cost of living increase.

While the median income in the United States is just over $59,000 a year, congresspersons receive an annual salary of $174,000 a year, almost 3 times that of what average Americans make. That really puts it into perspective when Alexandria Ocasio Cortez complains about lawmakers not voting for a pay raise. And remarkably in AOC's tweets, she has the audacity to use her anger at what she feels is a low minimum wage, to push for her getting that congressional cost of living increase. In one of her tweets, AOC exclaimed,

"It’s not a fun or politically popular position to take. But consistency is important. ALL workers should get cost of living increases. That’s why minimum wage should be pegged to inflation, too. Voting against cost of living increases is 1 reason why dark $ loopholes stay open."

There is no place this woman will not go and nothing Ms Cortez will not say to try and get her point across even if her logic is completely out in left field. Her enormous salary has nothing to do with the minimum wage and her comparing her supposed plight of needing a pay increase on her effective salary of $83 an hour to people making $7.25 an hour is off base about as far as you can get. And not only is AOC off her rocker comparing her pay troubles to minimum wage workers, she closes her tweet by almost justifying the corruption in Congress. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez used to be a bartender for a living, that's all the experience this woman has, but because she got elected to Congress, liberals think she's qualified to speak on anything and everything. You think someone who went to Boston University and graduated in 2011 with a degree in economics would have done something more than make drinks and tacos fo the past 7 or 8 years, but she didn't.

It is also very disturbing to see how much power Ms Cortez has been given and how much seasoned, long term legislators are beholden to the demands of a former bartender and taco maker who has been in Congress for less than 6 months. How interesting it is that for decades Americans have railed against the abuses of congressional pay and the Cadillac benefits they get, and have also complained that our lawmakers don't do enough to earn their enormous salaries and benefits, but low and behold, her Majesty AOC speaks, and all of a sudden, their pay is too low and we get propaganda like this trying to make it seem as if members of Congress and average Americans who are against giving Congress yet another raise, are the bad guys.

It seems as if almost every day, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez outdoes herself when it comes to being a hypocrite. She champions herself as a defender of the average working person. She claims to be for the little guy and for those who don't make a lot of money, but when she complains, loudly, about not being paid enough despite her $174,000 a year compensation, and that's exactly what she's doing, it makes most of us ask or think, "Is this woman for real?"

The cost of living increase is slated to be $4,500 a year, that's a $2.16 increase, staring in January 2020 unless Congress votes to freeze their pay. While AOC spends her time trying to make people sorry for her not making enough money and facing the possibility she might not get that $4,500 raise, she has apparently forgotten about the other benefits she gets which more than compensate for any raise and some which carry on for years after she leaves Congress.

Lawmakers get enormous expenses for staff and travel, free parking at all DC area airports, their health insurance premiums subsidized at 73 percent, and can qualify for up to 80 percent lifetime pension depending on their length of service.

Most Americans aren't buying Ocasio Cortez' sob story when her and her fellow do nothings in Congress complain about not getting a pay raise of $4.500 a year. People can't even relate to someone who makes that kind of money complaining about not making enough, yet the woman who says there is too much money in politics, gets a taste of a very good salary for 5 months, and all of a sudden she wants more.

No, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez did not directly ask for a pay raise, but she sure is trying hard to convince people she desperately needs one, thus proving she really isn't any different that most of corrupt politicians in Washington, DC.
