Obama Eid statement

This past Thursday President Barack Obama wished Muslims in America and around the rest of the world “Eid Mubarak!” or a blessed Eid, praising efforts to recognize the end of Ramadan as an official holiday.

Some of course are questioning the timing of Obama's well wishes for the Muslim holiday so soon after terrorist Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez shot and killed 4 Marines and 1 Navy sailor. Obama like to repeatedly praise holidays that are inherently non-American while tending to ignore or give little acknowledgement to our own celebrations and holidays such as Christmas, Easter, 4th of July and others.

In an official statement on the White House website, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama said:

"As Muslim Americans celebrate Eid across America, the holiday is a reminder to every American of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs. This past year New York City Public Schools announced adding Eid to their official school calendars alongside Christmas, Hanukkah and other holidays – an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation."

In this statement, Obama is giving praise to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio who made New York the first major city in America to mark the end of Ramadan and the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca as a school holiday.
