Letterman Reads A List Of This Marine’s Injuries, And The Whole Room Goes Silent

This is reality for the men and women who serve in our armed forces. The list of this warriors injuries is unbelievable, yet, he has endured. Most of us can only imagine the pain this young man has lived with and we are immensely grateful for those like him who risk it all.

Corporal Kyle Carpenter was only 19 when he was nearly killed while serving with the United States Marines in Afghanistan in 2010. After suffering an enemy grenade attack and nearly 40 surgeries in the last 5 years, the Medal of Honor recipient went on Letterman to share his unbelievable journey to recovery that led him to eventually run in and complete the Marine Corps Marathon.

Despite his many injuries and numerous challenges faced that many of us will never see, Carpenter worked hard to train for the prestigious marathon and was able to finish the race.

On June 19, 2014, Corporal Carpenter received the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony. Carpenter is the youngest living Medal of Honor recipient and only the second living Marine to receive our nation's highest honor.
